Nada Surf

Nada Surf has been around for a while, but for some reason never really made it big. Smart, guitar-driven rock with great lyrics is pretty hard to come by and Nada Surf absolutely nails it. Check out these two excellent songs:

When I Was Young

Music Video

Lyrics

It’s amazing how much time love saves you at first
When you rediscover your reason to work
And your aimless dreaming has found a target
And normalize and greed all function return
Came home early, quarter to two
I don’t need more wine, I’m coming for you

We carry pictures in our pretend wallet
Of ourselves and heavily edited seventies
With better handwriting and longer days at the park
And dinners with no drama the professor and Mary Anne
Came home early, a quarter to two
I don’t need more wine, I’m coming for you

When I was young, I didn’t know if I was better off asleep or up
Now I’ve grown up, I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of
When I was young, I didn’t know if I was better off asleep or up
Now I’ve grown up, I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of
What was that world I was dreaming of
What was that world I was dreaming of
Late summer return, airless apartment I lean out the window
Deals on irregular shirts, save right to light as last year, more so
When I was young, I didn’t know if I was better off asleep or up
Now I’ve grown up, I wonder what was that world I was dreaming of
What was that world I was dreaming of
What was that world I was dreaming of.

80 Windows

Play

Lyrics

Clusters of people talking secretly to each other
In a bar you cannot talk openly
to anyone you don’t already know
4 year olds, they have got the right idea
they jump the line and hit it on the nose
when we sit and we get quiet
then we look and see who’s home across the way
there are 80 windows we can see,
It’s christmas time and they all have the same tree.
You tell me the patterns you already see,
I wonder if they see us in our bed.
You said you like the one with the father who always eats with his son.
I like the rows of lights because they keep me calm.
I feel far away from you. so what else is new?
The moon is closer to the sun than I am to anyone.
