Richard Hawley

Richard Hawley is a member of the British band Pulp and a talented singer/songwriter on his own accord. Though his music is brand new it almost seems wrong for our era- as if these songs were put into a time capsule many decades ago only to be released now. In one word- timeless. In four words- listen to Richard Hawley:

Born Under A Bad Sign

Lyrics

What are you like? You’ve had a right life
And taken a long ride, but oh what a cost

And all of your life, staring at white lines
Reading the road signs, and oh what a loss

Sleeping late in the afternoon, playing your guitar

Born under a bad sign
Born under a bad sign

Sleeping late in the afternoon, staying out till dawn

Born under a bad sign
Born under a bad sign

Now you’re laying in the afterglow
And there’s something that she wants to know
Are you going be the one to say
You belong to me, you belong to me

Born under a bad sign
Born under a bad sign

Sleeping late in the afternoon, playing your guitar

Born under a bad sign
Born under a bad sign
You’ve had a right life
Born under a bad sign
Everybody knows
Everybody knows
Everybody knows
Born under a bad sign

Lyrics

Hold back the night from us,
Cherish the light for us,
Don’t let the shadows hold back the dawn.

Cold city lights glowing,
The traffic of life is flowing,
Out over the rivers and on into dark.

I’m going down town where there’s music,
I’m going where voices fill the air,
Maybe there’s someone waiting for me
With a smile and a flower in her hair

I’m going down town where there’s people
The loneliness hangs in the air.
With no-one there real waiting for me,
No smile, no flower nowhere.

Cold city lights glowing,
The traffic of life is flowing,
Out over the rivers and on into dark

Hold back the night from us,
Cherish the light for us,
Don’t let the shadows hold back the dawn.

I’m going down town where there’s people
The loneliness hangs in the air.
With no-one there real waiting for me,
No smile, no flower nowhere.

I’m going down town where there’s people
The loneliness hangs in the air.
With no-one there real waiting for me,
No smile, no flower nowhere.

Hold back the night
