Skittish

Life’s a bitch sometimes. Jeff Noller, the creative force behind the Band Skittish, was about to get signed by a record label when his drummer tried to commit suicide. Labels apparently aren’t very fond of suicidal drummers, so the whole thing went up in smoke. Add a love triangle, a bad breakup and the band breaking up to the equation and you’ve got yourself an artist with inspiration. The result is the EP The Five Steps. Intelligent lyrics, clever melodic progressions and creative productions. Great music. Here’s an awesome track from the album followed by two other great tracks from the double album The Perfect Shade Of Green:

Lyrics

Well, that’s how it goes
Its a kiss, to the lips, from the tippy-toes
Some paper mache, a goldfish in a bag,
and an undiagnosable sigh.
Its the love in her eyes
If I admit that I need you around,
would you keep me from drowning?
…siren or saint?
If this ship is sinking, I’m pouring some drinks
If this ship is sinking, lets have a drink
I can patch, I can plug, I can fix anything
Well, that’s how it goes
Its the love of your life shaking her head ‘no’
Its the smile that you fake, its the nights laying awake,
its the feeling you cannot disguise.
Its the look in her eyes
Tell me you love me and I’ll teach you to swim
Then we can go swim
I’ll buy you a boat if you give me a grin
Give me one grin
Cause I can fix anything
You drown me in ‘crazy’ but you know I love every drop
If I admit that I need you around…
I’ll wait by your ‘hello’ that’s calling me home
Cause I’ve been a stranger, and you’ve been alone
And after a while in the sun, put this whole fucking beast in the ground
I’m tapping my S.O.S. out

Lyrics

She don’t know me, but she knows my face
from a photo by the flower vase.
So I’ll introduce myself again and again..patience…
Maggie, rise up through the oak trees,
and waltz in halls of dead kings.
Just for peace of mind, I’m hoping you were right
I hear the humming of the birds outside.
I hear the singing of florescent lights.
What a way to end a faithful life.
What a thing to take from someone who, someone you love.
Maggie, rise up through the oak trees,
and waltz in halls of dead kings.
I dressed her up like she probably did for me (This is my brave face)
Two strangers in a room with a long history (This is my brave face)
Maggie, rise up through the oak trees,
and waltz in halls of dead kings,
and reclaim dusty attics.
Then there’ll be no more maybes
Just for piece of mind, I know you were right.

Little Things

Lyrics

once there was a castle in the mountains,
a couple kids, a comely garden,
and a white knight too. Stout and true.
Now where there were stables there’s a screen door,
a quarter acre by the airport,
and a dried up yard. No flowers.
Say that you won’t go away.
Say you love me say you’ll stay.
Or just take this ring and by up what you break.
Cause this is the life that we made,
with rusted hinges, peeling paint.
It may not be perfect, but I love it.
And I find diamonds everyday.
Mornings this old house is like a palace.
I pack her lunch and Lucy’s glasses.
And I let you sleep as her bus leaves.
Boxes and bags packed, you stand.
“It’s just the little things that are breaking me down.”
I’ll call when I get settled.
“It’s just the little things that are breaking me down.”
The upkeep of a fantasy no longer has a hold on me
Go, if you must run away, but don’t be here when I wake.
(If I made a promise, I never said I wouldn’t let you down)
Or just take this ring and by up what you break.
(Cause I can’t be your motivation. I got so much left to do)
This is the life that we made with rusted hinges and peeling paint.
(This is the life that you made now it’s not me…clamped with chains)
And I know it’s not perfect (It once was about me)
And I know I’m not perfect (Then was about us)
Now it’s about her (Tell Lucy goodbye, and I’m so sorry)
And I find diamonds everyday.
